2020 Uganda International Badminton tournament launched

36 Nations confirmed their participation in Uganda International.

During the launch of the 15th Edition of the Uganda International Badminton championship which was held at Lugogo on Thursday 13th Febraury 2020, the CEO Uganda Badminton Association Simon Mugabi confirmed the entrance of 35 nations plus Host Uganda to take part in this years tournament which will be held from 20th to 23rd February.

This years event is happening to be a qualifiers for 2020 Tokyo Olympic games and over 200 qualifying points available for winners. Host Uganda, Egypt, Nigeria, Zambia, Kenya and Algeria are the African Nations to take part in the competition.

Europe will be the most represented Continent with around 20 nations like German, Spain, Bulgaria, Luxembourg Poland and others, America will be represented by five nations Brazil, Peru and other as Asia will be represented by five country with India and Iran among.

The tournament is scheduled to start on Thursday with an grand opening ceremony on Friday which is to be graced by state minister for sports Hamson Obua at Lugogo indoor stadium.

At the launch National council of Sports Doctor Bernard Ogwel has told the press that “As Government of Uganda we have funded this event by 100%, this event has been growing continuously with countries which are taking part in it increasing by numbers last we has 25 now it is 35 more ten countries are to visit Uganda. As Government we have prioritise sports funding.

This year we are going to mostly prioritise the national federations to represent us and marketing us at the Olympics games in Tokyo and Badminton is one of those federation”,”We will look forward to see that we put everything in place them” Participating countries are expect to start arriving on Monday and start preparing for the event which is to contain Singles, Doubles for both Men and women and then Mixed doubles.
