Each of the beneficiaries received a mattress, a pair of bed sheets, a blanket, and a mosquito net for protection against malaria.
The children are from the villages in Semuto, Kapeeka, Kikamulo, Kito, Kinoni, Wakyato, Kasangombe Sub Counties, and Butalangu and Kiwoko Town Councils in Nakaseke District.
Each of the beneficiaries received a mattress, a pair of bed sheets, a blanket, and a mosquito net for protection against malaria.
Esther Nakawooya a concerned resident of Nakaseke says she sourced the donation from her friends of Inner Wheel Kampala which is under Inner Wheel International and Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW) from Canada.
According to Esther Nakawooya, the idea to support needy children was born out of the overwhelming evidence of need among children from poor families who cannot afford the cost of beddings due to high levels of poverty.
Nakawooya added that the situation is made worse by the high number of child-headed families, which makes the number of children who could miss out on the basic requirements.
One of the beneficiaries is 12-year-old David Ssenkungu, a resident of Balatira village in Semuto Sub County. Ssenkungu who lives with his uncle, says that he sleeps on an old mattress and a blanket.
He says that the initiative is a welcome relief for families who can’t afford the basic requirements of life.
