NCS to inject 500m in 2020 boxing Olympics qualifiers

National council of sports has promised to inject 500 million Ugshs towards the preparations of the 2020 Tokyo boxing Olympics qualifiers scheduled from 27th February to 2nd March 2020 in Dakar Senegal.

According to the press conference held on Wednesday January 22nd 2020 at Uganda boxing federation offices in Lugogo, the UBF president, Moses Muhangi insisted that National council of sports has promised them 500m for the preparations of Olympics qualifiers.

“Through serious meetings with National council of sports, according our budget of 600m , National council of sports has agreed to finance us with only 500m but until now we haven’t get the money but we are sure that we shall get them in few days, we have used our money to purchase the things that we are going to use in the residential camp which starts today 22nd January and ends on 16th February 2020 at Luzira prison training grounds”,president Moses Muhangi highlighted.

“The team is for Uganda not any person and any results comes out, good or bad will not be responsible for any one else but for Uganda, and we are not prepared well because we didn’t train well due to the limited funding. However, we have a trust in our coaches, shall do better for our boxers to qualify for Olympics in Japan”, Moses Muhangi added.

The residential camp comprising of 26 boxers, 13 main boxers and 13 reserves for the preparations of Olympics qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.

However, the reserves are to help the main boxers to put competitive competition against them and in case of one is injured the reserved will replaced the main boxers.

According to previous all African games held in Morocco Uganda managed to bring three medals and he was positioned in the 9th positions and this time round we have a lot of hope because our Bombers have again some experience and inspiration from the former Uganda bombers.

The team of eight coaches who have been selected have a lot of work to do in two weeks, to sharp the Uganda boxers to the standards.
