Eng Godfrey Mutabazi has been replaced by Irene Kagwa as the new UCC, according to the newly appointed ICT Minister, Judith Nabakooba the out going CEO at Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), Mr. Godffrey Mutabazi’s contract expired on Friday February 7th 2020
Reliable information in our possession indicates that Nabakooba has this morning dispatched a letter to Bugolobi directing amiable Mutabazi, whose contract had expired and hadn’t yet been renewed, to clear his desk and hand over office to Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo.
A lady Engineer Mutabazi has mentored for years, Irene Kaggwa has substantively been serving as UCC’s Director for Engineering & Communications Infrastructure.
In her letter, Minister Nabakooba directs that Irene Kaggwa serves in acting capacity until the Dorothy Okello-led governing Board conducts recruitment and a substantive CEO is recruited to replace Eng. Mutabazi who has productively and transformatively headed UCC for such a long time.
Information on the UCC website briefly profiles the new Ag UCC CEO as follows; “Mrs Irene Kaggwa-Sewankambo is the Director for Engineering and Communication Infrastructure at the Uganda Communications Commission. She possesses a vast experience in the ICT sector spanning policy development, research, regulation and implementation in various aspects including internet development, licensing, universal access, quality of service, numbering resource management as well as promotion of research and innovation. An engineer by profession, Mrs Sewankambo holds a Master of Science in Communications Systems and Signal Processing from University of Bristol in United Kingdom and a Master of Science in Economic Management and Policy (Business Economic Pathway) from the University of Strathclyde in United Kingdom. She acquired her Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University Kampala [where current Board Chair Dr. Dorothy Okello teaches]. Prior to [her current position at UCC], Mrs Sewankambo was the Head of Research and Development Unit as well as Coordinator of the Office of the Executive Director.”
