Fadilah wins gold at the African badminton championship

Fadilah ‘s achievement lifted Uganda to fourth position out of Seven Countries that Participated in the individual draw for the 2023 African Senior Badminton Championship.

National junior badminton player, Fadilah Shakima Mohammed Rafi has won Uganda’s first ever gold medal at the All-Africa-Senior Badminton tournament.

The 18-year-old, a fifth year student at Rubaga Girls School, came from a match to beat the much-loved Johanita Scholtz in the women’s singles final in Johannesburg, South Africa.

“We have to honor Fadilah for breaking the jinx of winning a gold medal in a senior event when he was still a junior. She is one of the five players Uganda is looking to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics,” Uganda Badminton Association (UBA) CEO Simon Mugabi said.

His teammates were Brian Kasirye, Husina Kobugabe and Gladys Mbabazi, Amos Muyanja (captain), Muzafar Lubega, Expedito Emudu, Augustus Owinyi and Tracy Naluwooza.

The team is Coached by Ivan Karimunda and Uganda Can have an extremely better in other tournaments.
