Independent, Omoding Emmanuel wins Serere county by-election

Omoding Emmanuel (Independent) has been declared as the winner Serere county by-election.

Omoding is the son of the late Hon. Patrick Okabe who passed away in an accident last year.

Omoding won with 15,638 votes, Ocur Phillip (NRM) came second with 13,290 votes followed by Alice Alaso (ANT) with 3,335 votes, Onguruco Martin (Independent) with 2,523 votes and Eratu Emmanuel (FDC) with 1,252 votes.

The Serere District Returning officer Ms. Sylivia Nangendo Cheptegei having added the number of votes cast as recorded on each declaration of results form in accordance with section 53 of the Parliamentary Elections Act (as Amended) declared Omonding at 9:50pm, having obtained the largest number of votes to be the elected candidate for Serere County Constituency, Serere Electoral District.

The total number of valid votes cast for candidates were 35,954, invalid votes were 812  and the total number of ballot papers counted were 36,766.

Serere county parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Patrick Okabe, the county’s former Member of Parliament. Bishop Patrick Okabe died in an accident along the Tirinyi- Mbale road with his wife on December 19, 2022.
