PMs, Ssewanyana Ssegirinya, return to Parliament on Tuesday after over one and half year

Two Opposition legislators Hon. Allan Ssewanyana of Makindye West and his Kawempe North counterpart Hon. Mohammed Ssegirinya returned to Parliament today Tuesday 4 April 2023 for the time since 2021, when they were arrested and jailed for alleged maber and terrorisms.

The duo, who were released last month on bail welcomed by deputy speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa together with other MPs.

“We are excited to see you here, Hon. Ssewanyana and Hon. Ssegirinya, we always happy when see our colleagues able to join us here in the house.”Saaid Tayebwa.

However he turned down the request for their maiden speech, saying that it is against the parliamentary rules of procedures.

Opposition chief whip, Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe had request the deputy speaker to allow the have their maiden address given that some of their constituent were inside the parliament eagerly waiting to here from them, but Hon. Tayebwa said that he out to but when notified earlier about the request.

Meanwhile; mr. Ssegirinya yesterday told this media that he is looking forward to a grand reappearance in Parliament after spending close to two years in the cold at Kitalya and Kigo government prisons.
