It was a sombre mood at Parliament as the Rt Hon Speaker of Parliament Anita Among received the casket containing the body of former State Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Rtd Col Charles Engola.

The Speaker, together with Members of Parliament, Parliament staff, relatives and friends of the deceased received the casket containing the remains of the former minister, which was ushered in by the UPDF.

The body will lie in State for MPs to pay their last respects. Thereafter, Parliament will hold a Special Sitting at 2pm in his honour that will be presided over the Speaker Anita Among.

Engola was killed by his body guard Wilson Sabiiti, before he turned the gun on himself in a salon in Kyanja, northeast of Kampala.
The motive behind the gruesome murder of the minister is still a subject of investigation

The Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has warned Ugandans to stop celebrating the deaths of certain people in the country.

While communicating to the house this afternoon, Speaker Among said that such acts are not only immoral, and uncultured but also inhuman and insane.

This was as Parliament this afternoon paid tribute for both the fallen state minister of labor Charles Engola who died on 2nd May 2023 after being shot by his bodyguard Wilson Sabiiti at his home in Kyanja and the reknown vlogger Ibrahim Tusubira aka Jjaja Iculi who was also shot by unknown assailants last week as he approached his home in Kyanja.

Meanwhile, Parliament has contributed 50m shillings towards the burial arrangements of the fallen state minister for labor Charles Engola.

Speaker Among also condemned the barbaric killings of Ugandans by cowardly people saying there’s no justifying reason or right for one to kill another in spite of political and religious affiliations.

Meanwhile, the motion to pay tribute to the late Engola has been moved by the government’s Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and seconded by the Leader of Opposition Mathius Mpuuga.

Nabbanja praised the late as a fearless warrior and a unifying character who contributed to the restoration of peace in Northern Uganda during the Lord’s Resistance Army war.

Rtd Col Engola died at the age of 65yrs, served as LC 5 Oyam district, Member of Parliament, state minister for Defense, and State minister of Labor at the time of his death.

Apparently, Parliament is debating on the motion.
