Speaking to the media, the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University Prof. Eli Katunguka, who also doubles as the Chairperson of the National Council for Higher Education( NCHE) responsible for accrediting study courses, stated that;

“Kyambogo University has applied for a review of 74 programs and is required to pay Shs 60m. He expressed concerns about the availability of such funds, asking, “Where will we find all this money?”

He further explained that each course unit under a program is accredited at Shs 700,000, which means that a degree program with ten units costs Shs 7m to be accredited. Acquiring this amount of money is a challenge.

Despite the fact that each student in higher institutions of learning pays Shs 50,000 annually to the NCHE, it remains unclear how the council can fail to facilitate program reviews given the funds they receive.

We are now waiting for the NCHE to come up with a final solution for all the students who have been and continue to be affected by the crisis of expired courses.
