Cranes start preps for AFCON qualifier against Algeria as Micho names Cranes squad for Eastern Region tour

Uganda Cranes will begin preps for their next Africa Cup of Nations Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Algeria with a build-up match against the Eastern Region Select X1 on May 30.

The match, which is part of Cranes’ regional tours aimed at popularising the sport, will be played at the Irundu primary school playground, Buyende district.

Accordingly Cranes coach Milutin Sredojevic Micho named a provisional squad of 32 players from the domestic StarTimes Uganda Premier League and FUFA Big League to prepare for the game against Eastern Region.

The Cranes will play Algeria on June 18 in Cameroon in the 2023 AFCON qualifier, which was shifted to the West African nation due to lack of any CAF-approved stadium in Uganda.

Going into the Group F penultimate game, the Cranes are third with four points from four games> In their qualifier, the Cranes beat Tanzania 1-0 in Dar es Salaam on March 28, 2023.

They need to beat Algeria (who have already qualified as group winners) and Niger in the last qualifier on September 13 to make it to the AFCON Finals due next year in Ivory Coast.
