SC Villa new Serbian coach Dusan Stojanovic has promised nothing but hard work.
The gaffer has been unveiled on Tuesday at SC Villa offices in Industrial Area in Kampala.
Stojanovic has been handed a two-year contract, replacing Jackson Magera who was surprisingly let go on the back of a promising season.
He will be working with former KCCA FC coach Morley Byekwaso who has been given a three-year contract and will handle the Junior teams as well.
Isaac Mwesigwa, recently at Express, has also bee unveiled as the new CEO as earlier reported by this Website.
SC Villa Vice President Daniel Bakaki said that the changes are part of the “ongoing restructuring ongoing at the club.”
“Last season was terrible because of the way it ended, but it gave us something to learn,” Bakaki said.
“We are not renewing contracts of the previous Technical team, not that they performed poorly but we need progress.
“We have appointed Serbian Stojanovic. We looked at him and we realised that he has experience on African football. We welcome him at Villa and we expect a lot from him.”
“For Morley, we welcome him back home. He is our Assistant Coach and will also coach the Junior team.
We want to put more emphasis on the Junior team because it from there where we will feed the senior team.”
“For Mwesigwa, he replaces William Nkemba as our new CEO. We are looking at activeness. He is experienced and we also expect a lot of progress.”
Bakaki pledged support from the Villa Management to both the Technical team and the Executive.
“What has always failed most clubs is interference from above. We will let the Coaches take their decisions, give them support and enough time.”
The new coach worked with Uganda Cranes coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic at Zamalek and Zambia.
“I want to thank everyone who made my arrival possible,” started the Serbian.
“I know Villa, they have long glory and tradition and their fans are thirsty for new success.”
“We know that weight of our jersey and badge, and we need to figure how to handle the pressure.
“The past coaches did a good job but were unlucky in the last job. We need to upgrade and recognise that and we want to keep the ongoing process up.
I have an obligation to continue on that path which brought a lot of joy to the villa family.
“I can promise just hard work, and the time I have been around will judge.
“I hope we will have more reasons to be happy then. I am not a person who wants to talk a lot but I think that our work will talk for us.”
“My style of play, Villa, need to be based on the field to play and score a lot of goals through possession. It should base on the type of players I have, then I can make a game plan accordingly.
If I have a two full-backs who can attack, then I can tell one not to go up the pitch.”Dusan said.
Morley Byekwaso, formerly a head coach at KCCA, refuted sayings that joining Villa as an Assistant Coach is a downgrade.
He said that him and the new coach have “a tough job at hand,” but excited about the new project which they want to take forward.
“I will give him (Stojanovic) enough support, and help the young ones as well. I have been a manager and an assistant and I have been successful before.”
“I have been more successful working with managers, I know how to behave and it’s coming here as an Assistant coach is not a degrade.
“I have been lacking a lot and I wanted to work with a foreign coach. My CV has been missing working with a foreign coach.
I want to learn new things and this is the best chance I can’t miss.”Byekwaso added.
New CEO Isaac Mwesigwa heaped praise on his new bosses, saying that Villa is the biggest club in the Country.
Rightly so, SC Villa are 16-time Uganda Premier League champions.
However, their last league triumph goes way back in 2004. And Mwesigwa vowed to reclaim Villa’s past glory.
“I want to thank Villa management for trusting me,” Mwesigwa said.
“This is an exciting and challenging role. There is no bigger club than Villa in this country.
“And with support from the club and fans, the aim is to build a sustainable SC Villa. We want to be the best in Africa again. We ask for your support.”
