Owek. Peter Mayiga urged Coffee farmers in Mawogoola to add value to their coffee

The Katikkiro of Buganda Charles Peter Mayiga is in Mawogola County in Ssembabule District where he is meeting the coffee farmers. He has advised farmers in this area to add value to their coffee and also create a market for their products

Owekitiibwa Charles Peter Mayiga hasTuesday 20 June 2023 visited the coffee farmers  under the Emwanyi terimba project, in Mawogola sub county as away of touring the progress of their farms for sustainable development.

This project is one of the projects initiated by Buganda kingdom to help its people fight poverty through growing and processing coffee.

The Katikkiro started at a gathering at Sembabule park, and he was welcomed by area residents, local leaders and Buganda kingdom leaders in the area.

Speaking to the congregation, the Katikkiro commended the people of Mawogola sub country for actively engaging in the Mwanyi terimba project, which according to him, shows future for poverty eradication.

“Endeavour to join hands to improve on the quality of your coffee after harvest, through using machines.” The Katikkiro added.

The Katikkiro has also dismissed allegations that coffee consumption leads to hypertension, which he says that it is caused by blood flow in the body, thereby encouraging people to consume coffee.

The Katikkiro has as well revealed the kingdom plans to launch a document that highlights 16 steps to be followed by coffee farmers, to help them benefit from their efforts through earning good money. It will be distributed to different coffee farmers in different parts of the country.

The Kingdom lands minister Owekitiibwa Haji Hamis Kakomo has commended the Kabaka of Buganda for providing easy transport to the farmers’ representatives through the  bodabodas which were delivered by the Katikkiro.

The Youth and sports minster in Buganda kingdom Henry Sekabembe Kiberu has challenged the youth to avoid misusing their land through selling it to buy boda bodas, saying that land is the best investment.

The Katikkiro was accompanied by different Buganda Kingdom dignitories including, Owekitiibwa Noah Kiyimba, Owekitiibwa Haji Hamis Kakomo, Owekitiibwa Henry Sekabembe Kiberu, Katambala Haji’ Sulaiman Magala, Mukwenda Owekitiibwa David Nantaggya among others.
