Six Mbale City Council Officials arrested by State House Anti-corruption Unit

The Anti Corruption Unit – State House Uganda working together with Uganda Police have arrested 6 Mbale City Council officials on various corruption allegations following the commencement of investigations by the Unit in Mbale City.

According to the Anti corruption Unit, The Mbale City Council Speaker Myriam Nambuya & Clerk to Council Annet Wawule connived with some Councilors to irregularly pass a motion to reduce the property rate from 8% to 4%. It is alleged that the Councilors did that in order to obtain kickbacks from property owners in Mbale City.

Kigenyi Abdul, Senior HRO irregularly included ghost workers on the payroll causing govt loss of over Ugx100M in payment of salaries.

He also irregularly paid UGX 3Bn to 401 Secondary schools &Tertiary employees who were not in database from Education Service Commission.

He also embezzled over UGX150M in under-assessment of property rates

Emmanuel Gidudu, Ass. Accountant, Industrial Divsion while serving as an Accountant connived with the then T/C Nothern Division Mr Kutosi James to embezzle over Ugx 43M funds meant for fencing Mayor Mbale P/S

Principal Health Inspector, Wandera Charles embezzled revenue out of the medical examination fees & suitability fees through issuing false receipts to applicants.

Former T/C Northern Div., Martin Busiku irregularly committed govt to contracts worth Ugx 74m.

On June 27th, 2023, the Anti Graft unit in liaison with Uganda Police in Soroti also arraigned Mr. Ocung Denis, the Acting district engineer, Soroti District LG before the Anti-corruption Court on Charges of Abuse of Office & Conspiracy to Defraud.

The charges were in relation to the implementation of the UGX394M Project for the construction of a piped water supply scheme in Adamasiko, Ojor parish, Kalie sub county, Soroti District.
He connived with the contractor M/S Time traders Ltd & paid them UGX24M with no work done

Many other officials from different districts have recently been arrested and charged over corruption matters.
