Over 1,200 students in Catholic schools in Kasese district have started this year’s mock examinations, under the Diocesan mock examinations. This has been revealed by the Education Secretary in Kasese Catholic schools, Rev. Fr. Joseph Mbusa.

Registration for mock examinations under the Diocesan mock examinations for Catholic founded schools ended last Friday on 21/07/2023 and out of the 24 Catholic founded secondary schools in Kasese, only 13 schools managed to register for these examinations.

According to Fr. Mbusa, the mock examinations set by Kampala Archdiocese were aimed at building confidence, courage, and preparing candidates for UNEB examinations so that by the time they sit for their final exams, they will be used to such kind of setting.

However, Fr Mbusa challenged parents and guardians against the act of enrolling the best students at O and A levels in secondary schools outside Kasese district saying, it demotivates the medium performing students and as well make kasese schools lose good grades to other schools.

“We will mark the exams ourselves and release the results. We aim at creating confidence in our students to get to the standards of the kampala students.” He noted.

Fr. Mbusa, further appealed to parents and guardians of P.7 pupils in Kasese district to register them with Kasese secondary schools next year, but not to take them out of Kasese district. He noted that they need to keep best students in Kasese and demonstrate to parents that they can excel.

Catholic-based schools have everything required to succeed, including qualified teaching staff, a conducive environment, school buses, vans to ease transportation, and new apparatus for students studying Science subjects.” He confidently noted.

Among the secondary schools that sat for UCE and UACE Diocesan mock examinations are, Kasese Secondary School, St. John’s Minor Seminary-Kiburara, St. Theresa Girls-Nsenyi, Kuruhe High School,

Kitholhu SS, Holy Dove Vocational, and St. Charles Vocational Secondary School.

The Diocese of Kasese was carved out of Fort Portal diocese in 1989, and It covers the current administrative district of Kasese and is the smallest in the Ecclesiastical province of Mbarara.
