Buganda Kingdom set for Kabaka’s 30th Coronation Anniversary celebrations scheduled for Monday 31 July 2023

Buganda Kingdom set for the 30th Coronation Anniversary of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II due to take place on Monday 31 July 2023 as per the programe revealed by the organising committee chairman Owek. Mpanga

The organizing committee for the Kabaka’s 30th Coronation Anniversary has released the detailed program for the coronation celebrations which started on 22 July 2023 with the Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga engaging in golf tournament at Serena Kigo Golf course, in commemoration of the Kabaka’s 30th Anniversary.

Releasing the commemoration program, the committee chairman for the organizing committee Owek David Mpanga Kisitu, has revealed the program showing that on Friday 28thJuly 2023, thanksgiving prayers will start in different religions starting with the Muslims on Friday, Seventh day Adventists on Saturday and followed by Anglican and Catholic Christians on Sunday,  all thanking God for the life He has granted the Kabaka of Buganda His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II the second, as he leads His Kingdom. They will all be accompanied with official commemoration messages from the Kingdom to be delivered by respective representatives.

Still on Friday, His Majesty is to officially launch the Sentema Affordable Housing project, the houses which were constructed by Buganda Land board with support by the Chinese, to help medium income earners access good houses at low costs.

On the fateful day,  lubiri gates are to be opened at exactly 8 am for the people to enter, and entertainments from different groups will start, but special invited guests are required to start coming at 10am and take their seats.

The Katikkiro of Buganda Owek Charles Peter Mayiga will be in the Kingdom main palace (Lubiri) Mengo by 11:30 am and when he gets there, the clan leaders will show case their clans and introduce themselves respectively.

By 11:45, the committee expects that His Majesty the King will have arrived in Lubiri and will start by receiving his special gifts known as the Amakulu being led by the Kaggo. He will be received by the Katikkiro and the clan leaders, then visit the royal drums called the Mujagujo which will be over 80 drums assembled.

Before He goes to his Royal seat, anthems will be sang, then a prayer will be given by the Archbishop of the Kampala diocese Paul Semwogerere, then the Kabaka will sit and the function will start officially.

 The committee plans that this function will take not more than 1 ½ hours from the time it officially starts with all activities being done within the specified period of time, and the Kabaka will leave.

The chairman for the organizing committee Owek David Mpanga Kisitu has cautioned people to be very vigilant with the security so that they avoid the conflicts that usually arise between the security and the congregation during such functions.

In the same way, the minister in charge of communication in Buganda Kingdom Owek Noah Kiyimba has appealed to UMEME to avoid the road shading they tend to do during such functions, to enable the people who will not make it to the function to watch from their homes.

The organizing committee for this year’s celebrations comprises of Owek. David Mpanga Kisitu the Chairman, Owek. Haji Hamis Kakomo as the vice chairman, Owek. Noah Kiyimba in charge of communication, Omutaka Augustine Namwama as the secretary and the permanent secretary in the office of the Katikkiro Josephine Nantege as member.
