The Bishop of Masaka Diocese The Rt. Rev Serverus Jjumba has challenged the newly ordained priests and Deacons to be committed in their service and know that they are servants in God who are called to love and to serve.
He noted this as he led the service where he ordained a total of 36 candidates where 20 were ordained to priesthood and 16 were ordained of deaconate at Kiyovu cathedral of Masaka Diocese.
He asked the newly ordained priests that they are called to be mediators between God and his people and the whole church through performing the holy sacraments and other church activities.
He showed concern over people who look at other people while taking on their work, which at most times distract them from fulfilling their responsibilities, and cautioned them to focus on God while carrying out their responsibilities so that they succeed during their service.
While speaking to the lay faithful, Bishop Jjumba reminded them to utilise priests and Deacons well, through attending masses and services sothat they move in the right footsteps that God wants them to be.
Among the newly ordained priests include, Fr John Mary Muzeeyi Ssengabi, Fr Simon Peter Sserwadda, Fr John Chrysostom Tebandeke, Fr John Paul Mulindwa, Fr Robert Mukalazi, Fr Charles Sserunjogi, Fr James Mawejje, Fr Silver Mabiriizi Mapeera, Bro. Fr Bruno Chrisantus Wekesa, Fr Luke Makumbi, Fr Mugagga Lubowa, Fr John James Kikulwe, Fr John Kirumira, Fr Jerome Ssebayigga, Fr Innocent Bukenya, Fr Gerald Kizito, Fr Denis Kiweewa, Fr Bernard Sseggwaanyi, Fr Aloysius Sebugulu and Fr George William Mukalazi.
However, he warned Christians that ordained priests are not posted to their parishes to do social services but to preach the word of God saying, it is the government’s role to offer social services to the citizens, and the church just supports what the goverment provides.
The function was attended by a big number of catholic Christians’ and other dignitaries such as leaders from the central government, cultural leaders and politicians from various parts of the country.
