‘You Can Count on Us’ – Tayebwa Assures Gen Kainerugaba of Support from MPs

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa told MK Movement Chairman Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba that MPs in the 11th parliament are ready to support him.

“You can count on us,” said Tayebwa, who is also the MP for Ruhinda North County, while addressing residents of Bukedea district who gathered at Kongunga Primary School Grounds in Kachumbala county on Monday morning to receive Gen Kainerugaba.

Tayebwa’s message to the General was delivered after the Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among assured Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba that he has the support of the 11th parliament in the endeavours he is pursuing.

Though Speaker Among wasn’t specific, Gen Kainerugaba, who is the chairman MK Movement, has declared presidential ambitions and has announced intentions to run in the 2026 elections.

Among, who is the Woman MP Bukedea district, invited over 300 MPs at Kongunga Primary School Grounds in Kachumbala county in Bukedea district where she held an event to welcome the General to the district.

“We have over 300 MPs [here]… because we love you,” Among said.

“This is proof that parliament supports you.”

The Speaker She thanked MPs for coming to receive Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba 

“We are happy to receive the son, [just as] we received the father,” she said.

Among on Sunday hosted more than 300 MPs to a Thanksgiving ceremony at her country residence in Kamutur Sub-county in Bukedea and urged them not to return to Kampala, but rather wait to welcome the former Land Forces Commander.

“Honourable members, I have a function tomorrow [Monday] and I want to direct all members who are around and those who are about to arrive to kindly attend that function. I will be receiving my brother, Gen Muhoozi in Bukedea,” Among said during the Thanksgiving Mass that was led by the Bishop of Soroti Catholic Diocese, Rt Rev Dr Joseph Eciru Oliach

Speaking at the Monday event, Gen Kainerugaba reminisced about the time he spent he spent in Teso region battling LRA rebels as he addressed thousands of people that gathered at Kongunga Primary School Grounds in Kachumbala county in Bukedea district.

“I know Teso very well. It is my home. And I thank you for this warm welcome,” said Gen Kainerugaba who was in Teso for six months in 2003.

“I’ve come here to greet you… Thank you so much for coming in big numbers.”

Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the senior presidential advisor on Special Operations — urged residents to support development programs that the government is implementing in the region.

At the event, Speaker Among requested Gen Kainerugaba to officiate the handover of a dummy cheque of Shs240 million to Koena Sub-county SACCO, which will be used to empower Women and youth in the region.

Some of the MPs that were at the event are Health Minister Jane Aceng, Luuka MP Esther Mbayo, Kachumbala MP Patrick Opolot and Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda, who is also the Deputy Spokesman MK Movement.

Gen Kainerugaba will be a guest of honour today evening as youth face off in a football tournament dubbed MK Cup that will be played at Soroti Stadium.

There will also be a kasiki later in the night ahead of a motor rally and the Baraza that will be held on Soroti Sports Ground on Tuesday.

While leaving Bukedea district, Gen Kainerugaba made stopovers at Kumi and Ngora district to greet hundreds of residents who stood by the roadside.
