Goverment to support animal breeders to improve on productivity-PM Nabanjja

As a way of improving productivity from farmers,  the prime minister of Uganda Robinah Nabanja has revealed that the government has plans of supporting animal breeders to improve on the quality of their breeds in the country.

During the process, the prime minister is moving with other ministers around the country to moblise Farmers and highlight them on production, productvity and profitability as advised by president Yoweri Kaguta Museveni under his 6 policy guidelines.

While inspecting progressive farmers in Kiboga and Kyankwanzi districts during the ongoing agricultural expos in the country, Nabanja noted that the 6 policy guidelines as stated by the president include production, multiplication, distribution, certification of seeds and stocking and materials, disease control, agricultural mechanisms, irrigation and farmer education and moblisation in addition to partnerships with big land owners, and interventions with the fisheris sector.

At Bukinda Ranch in kyankwanzi district, Nabanja noted that the government has decided to partner with private sector players to achieve  its goal on socio economic transformation.

Nabanja added that the government has instructed the extension staff to offer free services to the live stock farmers in the country to ensure that there is improved production to meet the global market. She said that goverment is priotising agricultural promotion because it employs over 60% of Ugandans.

The state minister for agriculture Rtd Maj Bwino Kyakulaga noted that partnerships with the private sector will help on reducing the cost of acquisition of modern breeds in the country.

Kyankwazi district vetinery officer Dr. Thomas Kabugo mentioned that the large scale farmers are helping government to offer services that would have been expensive to get from abroad.

The farmer education, moblisation, value addition and service delivery campaign that started on 18th August this year in the districts of Mubende, Mityana, Kiboga, Kasanda, and Kyankwanzi has ended today.

The theme  is farmer moblisation, education, value addition and profitability campaign as advised by His Excellency the president of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
