Katikkiro meets Kitovu hospital staff for the blood Bank expansion cause

The Buganda Prime minister Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga has called upon people in Buganda to work heard towards being healthy, as one of the targets that the King has for his subjects since healthy people can lead  the kingdom to development.

Addressing the staff of Kitovu hospital at Bulange in Mengo, the Katikkiro noted that if Buganda is to achieve its 5 pillars to get to the development  that it wants to attain, it has to start with having healthy people, since being healthy means being able to work, look after their families and work towards the kingdom development.

The Katikkiro noted that people need to be sentitized and educated on how to keep healthy and how to mantain their lives to be able to live happy and healthy lives, siting the period of Covid 19 when people were sensitised about avoiding shaking hands which helped to reduce the spread of covid 19 virus and diarrhea at the same time.

He noted educating young girls on the dangers of early pregnancies, educating parents on the dangers of giving away their children into early marriages for the sake of dowery, and educating people about the cause of fistula which people mistaken to be caused by witchcraft, saying that this mentality has misled many people and stopped them from getting the right treatment for their health challenges.

However, he has commended Kitovu hospital for the efforts towards expanding the hospital blood bank, noting that blood is highly required in people’s lives such as accident victims, mothers during  delivery, cancer patients among others, and pledged that the kingdom is to work together with the hospital to support kitovu hospital towards the blood bank expansion cause.

He revealed that the kingdom together with the Rotary club is in the process of constructing a ward for accident victims in Nkozi hospital, as away of saving people’s lives who are involved in accidents along Masaka road.

The medical director for Kitovu Hospital Doctor Alfred Lumala revealed to the Katikkiro that Kitovu hospital has got to the level of treating people who have failed to be treated in other hospitals around Masaka.

He added that the hospital has 248 beds of which 31 beds are for fistula patients, it has the main  blood bank in Masaka, it has a department that takes care of pre mature babies among other services.

Doctor Lumala has however expressed need for expanding the hospital blood bank to get to the standard of the required blood bank which requires 980 million shillings for it to be completed. He asked the kingdom to get into partnership with kitovu hospital to see that they can attain the desired goal.
