As a way of fighting against poverty among farmers and motivating them to invest more in their activities, Kasese municipal Mp Hon Ferigo Kambale donates over 60 kilogrames of maize to farmers in Kasese.
Ferigo noted that he was able to lobby this maize from parliament sothat farmers in Kasese can actively participate in planting in this coming planting season to help them yield from the harvests when time for harvesting comes, giving each farmer five kilograms of maize.
Ferigo discouraged the farmers who have recieved the maize not to sell it but to put in efforts to plant and increase on their food security sothat they can feed their families, and sell some to fight poverty among themselves. He appealed to the local community to put aside politics and focus on development if they are to excel.
The Kasese municipal agricultural officer Asanairi Bukanywa appealed to farmers to make timely preparations in their gardens so that they can fully prepare their soil to improve on the quality and quantity of their harvests.
He noted that one of the biggest challenge affecting farming in Kasese is farmers sticking on their traditional farming methods other than adopting to the technically tested methods of farming to improve on their productivity.
He gave them methods that they can use to improve on their gardens such as discouraging them from burning grass, advising them to do mulching, among others, so that they can improve on the fertility of their land, as they wait for the planting season in September. Currently, Kasese is experiencing a very hot weather as farmers are patiently waiting for the rain that they expect in September so that they can plant their crops
