The International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) Uganda Association Northern Championship which was held in Gulu City at Gulu city club came to its climax on Sunday, with Child care Taekwondo Club emerged overall winners after collecting a total of 47, gold-21, silver-15 and bronze-11.
The two day event, saw nine clubs from Northern taking part and 156 competitors registered for the competition.
Gulu university taekwando club, came out second with gold -13, silver-12 and bronze -7, City gym came third with gold -4, silver-5 and bronze -1 , Pabbo taekwando club became fourth with gold -4, silver-3 and bronze -6 while Young lion taekwando club came fifth with gold -4, silver-3 and bronze -3.
Gulu taekwondo club was the sixth with gold -3, silver -3 and bronze -3, New life taekwondo club came in the seventh position with gold-0, silver -1 and bronze -1, Omoro taekwondo academy was in the eighth position with gold -0, silver-1 and bronze -0 and in the last position was Combat spirit taekwondo club with gold -0, bronze -0 and bronze -1.
Ojara Martin Mapenduzi, the area MP for Gulu West division constituency was the chief guest at the crowning ceremony on Sunday 10 September 2023.
Hon. Mapinduzi congratulated winners and all participants for the game exhibited during the championship and pledged support in promoting Taekwondo and these talented man so that they archive their goals.
According to Robert Ojambo, the General Secretary of ITF Uganda Association, “the surprisingly the game is growing on a high speed, I thank the clubs who participated in this tournament. And this is not the last time Northern region has the kind of a Championship this year, we have another two days championship in Kitgum come next month starting from 28-29.”said.
“All these Championships will help us to prepare for the East African Championship which will be held in Kenya from 5-8 December this year.” Ojambo added.
