The Opposition party Uganda peoples Congress (UPC) party has applauded the government of the republic of Uganda acting immediately forward to license Salaam Bank to commence Islamic banking operations in Uganda.

Addressing the media at party headquarters Kampala during it’s weekly presser on Wednesday, Faizo Muzeyi head of information and communication noted that, following the world bank announcement that it will not be accepting any new financial requests from Uganda due to the Anti-homosexuality law, UPC, through it’s press statement of August 16, 2023 reminded government to step the debate and ensure implementation of Islamic banking whose operations are friendly.
“The party applauds government for taking that bold step forward to license Salaam Bank to start Islamic banking operations I Uganda, such good ideas should be always supported and implemented in time,”Faizo added.

However, UPC reiterated it call to the government to effectively dialogue with world bank and trace the relationship between the two parties which started way back in 1969s and not built on such morals.

Away from that, UPC urged the parents, pupils, students and schools to make enough preparations and get ready for the examinations following the release of the national examinations time table for Primary leaving examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda advanced certificate of education (UACE) by Uganda national examinations board (UNEB).

Faizo says this is a big undertaking that requires a lot of school dues, give maximum support , advice and encouragement to their daughters and sons so write examinations with full determination, confidence and focus , to be very much respectful to their teachers and fellow pupils/students as they try to avoid last moment temptations leading to exam malpractices.

The party spokesperson, Sharon Arach Oyat says to UNEB and school administrations, this is should not be the time of denying learners to sit for their final examinations on financial grounds.
“Let such issues be resolved on time and ensure not to disrupt the concentration of our candidates,” Sharon said.

She adds that the weather condition which is hugely influenced by climate changes should inform schools, UNEB and government that there is need for adequate preparations in advance like air transport to hard to reach areas due to heavy rains that washes away bridges as well as floods, reliable boat services and terrain four wheel cars to facilitate the smooth running of examinations.

Faizo says the public should cooperate fully with the authorities as regards to dubious individuals who traverse parents’ homes with alleged examination leakages and want to exchange them for money, and with improved science and technology, such characters can print out anything to cheat or mislead the public. UPC cautions the public and schools to avoid such bad characters, and instead report them to the authorities
“Schools should concentrate on proper preparation and guidance of the candidates, ” Faizo added.
