2023 Airtel Masaza Cup quarterfinals first leg set for this weekend

The wait 2023 Airtel Masaza knock out stages set to kick off tomorrow, Saturday16 September 2023 with the quarterfinal first leg game between 2008 champions, Kyadondo and Buddu, with other three games to be played on Sunday 17 September in various play grounds as scheduled.

This tie will be characterized by the experience got from the games played in between the two, as both teams were together in the same group last year and this year, despite Kyadondo having proved beyond doubt that they have an upper hand as they are yet to lose any game in hands of Buddo in their last four meetings, winning two and draw two.

Although Buddu is known as Masaza Cup power house, the history and statistics give an advantage against travelling Buddu in tomorrow, Saturday’s encounter that will be held at Hormisdallen School play ground in Gayaza.

Kyadondo will build on the services of Derrick Walugambe who scored alone goal against Buddu in Masaka recreation this year and Ramathan Mwanza, while Buddu will commercialise on the services of their striker Ssekibengo.

In one of the toughest quarterfinal encounter this year. The record champions, Gomba will up against Ssingo where both of the team are tipped to be winners of this year’s championship from the beginning but one have to remain behind and let the other go to the next stage due to the fixture.

Gomba,  who were second behind Mawokota in their group, will host the first leg on Sunday to prove their rivals that they are meant to be in the final as they were tipped by many football lovers and will look on the services of young talented boy Allan Ofyrowroth and Kenneth Kimera while Ssingo will stand on the services of their experienced coach Simon Ddunga.

Bulemezi vs Buwekula

Bulemezi have to pull out their socks at home on Sunday when they host on form Buwekula, if they are to overcome this tough tie against the best team so far this year,  Buwekula county football team emerged group winners group unbeaten which make them be the number one tournament favourites.

Buvuma vs Mawokota

Since 2004 when Masaza cup football tournament was brought back,  it’s the first time Buvuma county qualify for knock out stages after surprising tournament giants, Ssingo, and Bulemeezi when they defeated them and secured a slot in this year’s quarterfinal round where they face three time winners, Mawokota.

Despite being underdogs, Buvuma team looks very organised under their coach Ismail Ndawula for the tie. Whereas, Mawokota under coach Richard Malinga,  led their group but will struggle to get a point when travelled to Buvuma islands on Sunday.

The second leg will be played next week.
