Drivers, Riders arrested and fined over violation traffic rules in Kampala Metropolitan Areas

Police in Kampala Metropolitan Area arrested and detained a number of drivers and boda boda ridders for violating of traffic rules and later fined them before were released. As stated in a statement issued by traffic office on Monday September 18.

The Fika Salama Extra Awareness team continues its engagement with communities, utilizing various channels such as media houses, social media platforms, and in-person interactions to promote road safety messages nationwide.

During the week of September 10th to 16th, 2023, a total of 99 drivers were recorded by CCTV cameras exceeding the speed limit along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway. All of them were subsequently fined 200,000/=.

Furthermore, a total of 991 motorcycles were impounded for various offenses, including 502 riders without driving licenses, 334 without crash helmets, 298 lacking reflectors, and 127 for other violations.

On Friday, September 15th, 2023, a total of 173 drivers driving under the influence of alcohol were apprehended across six divisions of Kampala Metropolitan (KMP), specifically in Kiira Road, Wandegeya, Old Kampala, CPS Kampala, and Katwe division. They were detained until the following day, fingerprinted, and fined 200,000/= each.
