Buganda kingdom set for commemoration of Bulungi bwansi

Buganda kingdom has revealed final plans for the commemoration of Bulungi bwansi due to take place on 7th October 2023. The kingdom commemorates this day every year on 8th October which has been slightly changed for this year’s commemoration.

Revealing this year’s commemoration program, the minister of local government, Kabaka’s tourism and issues outside Buganda kingdom Owek Joseph Kawuki noted that the kingdom has engaged in bulungi bwansi activities for the last full week around the 18 Buganda counties, as a way of sensitising the public about the goodness of working together for a common goal without expecting any reward and as well preparing them for the final commemoration.

He pointed out bulungi bwansi activities such as clearing wells, cleaning schools as a way of training children to work whole heartedly to achieve a common goal without pay, tree planting and hygiene/sanitation, cleaning homes and villages to train people how to maintain hygiene and cleanliness in their homes among others.

Owek Kawuki revealed that on Friday 6th October, the Kingdom is to hold a health camp aimed at availing free Health services to the people in the region at Our lady of Consolanta catholic church in Bweyogerere Parish.

And on 7th October, the kingdom is to hold the final commemoration of the Bulungi bwansi day still at our lady of Consolanta Catholic church in Bweyogerere parish under the theme “Emphasizing Bulungi bwansi and good leadership to protect Kingship.

Owek Kawuki has called upon the public to engage in bulungi bwansi in their areas so that they can maintain clean societies to live healthy lives. He added that although the kingdom does not have revenue collected from taxes, people should continue engaging in Bulungi bwansi for the good of the kingdom as it has been done by the people in the kingdom even before.

As a way of promoting people’s engagement in carrying out bulungi bwansi, the kingdom is to plant the bulungi bwansi Kyadondo store to enable people get the tools to use when carrying out bulungi bwansi, as it keeps adding more tools to the store every year. He urged local leaders to make sure that they manage the tools in the stores so that they can benefit the people in their area.

At the same function, the kingdom is to reward the best performing Local chiefs in different counties and this year’s best county was Bulemeezi, followed by Mituba 4 Kawuga.

The event will start at 7am with bulungibwansi carried out until 9am and the program will continue at 10am.
