Minister of health Jane Ruth Acheng donated 300 million shillings to over 600 groups in Lira city with an aim of helping them fight against poverty among themselves through engaging in different developmental activities.

While launching the distribution of these funds to her voters in Adek Okwok, Bar Apwo and other areas of Lira city, Minister Jane Ruth Aceng allocated 500,000 shillings to each group as a way of encouraging them to use it to eradicate poverty.

Among the groups which benefitted from the funds include Angwetangwet Bedi-Lwak Village Saving and Loan Association, Teko Saving and Loan Association in Alia, Boroboro East Youth Unisex Saloon Association, Jokon Meda-Pige Women Entrepreneurship Association, Oryemcan Produce Buying and Selling Association, and others. The minister stressed that she is to keep the funds for each group that has not been present until they come for their money.

She appealed to the groups that have received the funds to use the money in developmental ventures so that it can help them to fight against poverty among themselves.

However she noted that the money that she has allocated to these groups is her own money which she has used to fulfill the manifesto she presented to the people of Lira city.

She asked her voters to embrace the different government programs such as PDM so that they can use it to get out of poverty since the government does not want to leave anyone behind.

One of the women groups in Lira city commended the minister for the continuous support towards their groups in Lira and pledged to use the funds meaningfully.
