Unbelievable situations alleged to be at Mulago Kawempe hospital as new born babies are badly handled.

The management of Mulago referral hospital Kawempe branch in kawempe division are recklessly mishandling new born babies.

Mothers in labor hit this government health facility expecting to access fast and freely provided health care . The midwives in connivance with doctors extort money sh (50.000/=) from laborers before laying a hand to them.

The sh 50.000/= is ironically tagged to be a consultation fee, on top of this money, relatives to the laborers are asked to Carter for extra surgery fees and as well as purchase some drugs from the hospital to run their pharmacies.

It is believed that top doctors are routinely steals tax payers drugs from the hospital to stock in their businesses.

The hospital is heavily congested with no space to pass. All Corridors are filled with bedding belongings to abandoned patients, Mothers are forced to sleep on dirty floors and Verandas with their belongings.

The Mothers Sadly cannot see their babies and in most cases end up losing them to kidnappers who are keeps around the hospital.

Back the ward where the babies are kept their is a poor ventilation room due to poor aeration in most case the babies suffocate to all most death .

Some of the premature babies who had been admitted in the neonatal intensive care unit at Kawempe national referral hospital have been transferred to the Mulago specialized maternal and neonatal hospital.

In a statement issued on Thursday, ministry of Health said they “acknowledge the overwhelming patient numbers” at Kawempe hospital. The statement comes after social media got awash with photographs showing newly-born babies sleeping on plastic chairs and some sharing a single bed.

Dr Lawrence Kazibwe the director of Kawempe hospital says that they have the capacity of admitting about 60 babies but the number of deliveries at the hospital is high at about 100 per day. This is not the first time conditions at Kawempe hospital have been put in the limelight. Three months ago, babies at the unit died due to a power outage.
