The Deputy Speaker, Thomas Tayebwa has on Thursday 9th November visited and inspected the research work at Namulonge, NARO Research in an oversite duty.

Tayebwa who was flanked by MPs commended the work, creativity and innovativeness the scientists use in the animal industry and crop husbandry and indeed they have put the funds released by the Government to proper use.

“Today I visited National Agricultural Research Organization(NARO) at Namulonge, Gayaza to appreciate the extent of innovations and research in the agricultural sector.

“I applauded our scientists for the wonderful innovations in the animal industry and crop husbandry and indeed they have put the funds released by the Government to proper use.

“I advised NARO to seek partnerships to commercialise their technologies that remain in laboratories as this can bring the entity none tax revenue up to atleast Shs100b a year from the current 3.1bn a year I used the occasion to reiterate the position of parliament not to support GMOs but instead promote the use of technology to improve indigenous seeds and breeds.

I thank Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze for the work done at NARO and I promise Parliamentary support for more funding of their activities as long as proper justification is provided. “said Tayebwa.

Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the minister of Agriculture Animal Industries and Fisheries said while welcoming the Mr. Tayebwa, “As NARO family, we have had the honor to host Rt Hon Thomas Tayebwa deputy speaker of Parliament & a team of Hon MPs at Namulonge, Nakyesasa research station to see & appreciate the various research outputs & technologies innovated & produced by our scientists.

“It was great show-casing the work of scientists to the elected leaders. Quite often scientists work behind doors without much publicity but yet produce highly impactful outputs on livelihoods. Our plan is to commercialize & roll out all research products & increase uptake! ” Said Tumwebaze.
