Brave Burkina Faso overpowered by France at U17 World Cup

Burkina Faso began their FIFA U-17 World Cup campaign with a spirited display despite losing 3-0 to France in an entertaining match in Jakarta on Sunday.

Second-half goals from Mathis Lambourde and late Joan Tincres and Tidiam Gomis penalties secured a winning start for Les Bleuets in the Group E match.

Lambourde broke the deadlock just after half-time, expertly firing through the keeper’s legs from Ismail Bouneb’s assist.

Burkina Faso spurned a great chance when Appolinaire Bougma shot wide one-on-one. They remained a threat with quick breaks but failed to capitalize.

France eventually pulled away late on with Tincres and Gomis both converting confidently from the spot.

Burkina Faso competed admirably throughout but were ultimately overpowered by their European opponents.

Man of the match Saimon Bouabre impressed for France with his industry and distribution in midfield.

After this composed opening victory, France will be confident of progressing from a Group E also containing Korea and USA..

Burkina Faso now face a tough task to bounce back against USA next on Wednesday.
