Speaking to journalists at parliament, The Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga said that the earlier scheduled meeting meant for yesterday was later shifted to today but to their dismay the same meeting was cancelled without excuse.

Mpuuga says that the meeting was called by the speaker of Parliament Anita Among on behalf of government to discuss and iron out the opposition demands on human and civic rights violation, long detention of political prisoners and the 18 missing NUP supporters who were kidnapped by state security agencies.

Mpuuga says this is an equivocal signal showing that the government is lost and not ready to adhere and respond to the demands of opposition and also protect the human rights of Ugandans.

It’s from this that Mpuuga that vowed to continue commanding the opposition out of plenary sittings until government responds to their demands.

The Opposition Caucus met again today to agree on a common ground ahead of the resumption of Plenary As you recall, a month back, I presented to

Parliament a statement on the unabated human rights violations in which I outlined our demands to which we want the government to comprehensively respond to.

The usual norm is that, before such a statement goes to the floor of the House, the LOP get a copy of it well in time. We never received the copy much as it appeared on today’s Order Paper as item 4.

Our Caucus therefore resolved to stay away until such a time when the state is ready to account for the Missing 18 and to make an undertaking to bring to an end all forms of rights violations.
