President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni urges the public to avoid getting HIV/AIDS because it is the number one solution fighting the deadly disease, Mr. Museveni who was the chief commemorator at the national commemoration event held Kibaale Rakia District said that.”
As we commemorated World AIDS Day at Kibaale in Rakai district, I stressed the importance of implementing free education in government schools to fight HIV/AIDS among adolescents aged 15+. Despite opposition from some government head teachers, we must eliminate fees that keep children out of school. Let’s empower them and make education an Anti-AIDS measure.
Secondly, prevention is paramount in our battle against HIV/AIDS. Parents should counsel the children while they are young even though the treatment is available, if you get infected, the virus limits your health. Prevention is the number one solution in our fight against HIV/AIDS
For the people who are already living with the virus, it is important that they live a positive life and take medication as prescribed by health practitioners.
I thank people like Dr. Watiti and others because they have shown us that it is possible to live longer despite living with the virus.
HIV-1 infection, initially described as “slim disease”, was first recognized in Uganda in 1982, with the first victims found in Rakia District.
Meanwhile, On 1st December, WHO, together with communities and partners will commemorate World AIDS Day 2023, under the theme “Let communities lead”.
Communities living with, and affected by, HIV, networks of people from key populations and youth leaders have been, and continue to be, essential for progress in the HIV response. They provide essential prevention, testing and treatment support services, build trust, generate innovative solutions, promote health, monitor the implementation of policies and programmes, and hold providers accountable.
The world can end AIDS with communities leading the way. That is why the theme for World AIDS Day this year is ‘Let communities lead’, and much more than a celebration of the achievements of communities, it is a call to action to enable and support communities in their leadership roles.
On World AIDS Day 2023, WHO celebrates and recognizes the invaluable contributions of communities in leading the response to HIV.
