The Uganda Medical and Dental Practioners council (UMDPC) has decided to appeal to court after being proved guilty over the case against them for failure to allow medical students from King Caesar University to do internship in hospitals.

The medical students from King Caesar University reported the council together with the ministry of health for failure to give them space to access hospitals for internship to get proper training during their medical course and the high court proved the council guilty.

The University committee and the students noted that the Uganda Medical and Dental Practioners council’s failure to avail them chance to go to hospitals for internship claiming that they are not yet ready was not right at all.

However, the ministry of health together with the council stresses that King Caesar University doesn’t have enough qualified lecturers to train medical students therefore their students had to be tested and proven first before they could be allowed to go for internship.

In its ruling, court proved the council guilty for not taking its responsibility towards these students since students are innocent and attended science classes at the University which is authorized and approved to train medical students.

The Chairman for Uganda Medical and Dental Practioners Council Prof Joel Okullo Odom, said that they are going to court to appeal for the court to change its ruling.
