KADOMA SWEATS TO GET SHS 800K AS PROF EMMANUEL T MUTEBILE MEMORIAL SQUASH TOURNAMENT ENDS

The one week of   Prof Emmanuel T Mutebile memorial squash tournament which started on 29, January came to an end yesterday, Saturday, 3, February 2023 at the Kampala club venue near Sheraton Hotel.

The tournament was to honour the late governor of bank of Uganda, Prof Emmanuel T Mutebile and was purely sponsored by bank of Uganda, who injected 10million shillings into  the tournament.

Deputy governor of bank of Uganda, Michael Atingi Ego who was the chief guest thanked the players for their participation .

Michael, went on to thanks the organizers to organise a tournament for who was his best friend  (Prof Emmanuel T Mutebile) and promise  for more funds next year.

According to Ruth Tumwesigye Kyetere,vice chairperson of Kampala club, said that they have varieties of games for everyone to enjoy like squash, long and table tennis, badminton and others.

Silas Katonyera, who was the tournament director and squash captain, handed over captainship leadership to Timothy Kayondo.

Silas, who have been squash captain for four years, went on to thank bank of Uganda for the sponsorship package and appeal them to continue supporting this tournament which will be played annually.

In today’s final, experienced Paul Kadoma sweats to win Jonathan Mwegamire 3:2 in men’s category to earn himself 800,000 shillings as runners up Jonathan got 600,000 while semi finalists each got 300,000 and quarter finalists each got 100,000.

In ladies category, Newzealand born Laura Rogers won herself 500,000 shillings as prize money after beating Safinah Mugide 3:1 and Safinah got 300,000 while semi finalists each got 100,000.

In veterans category, JB Tamwesigire, president of Uganda squash association  won the final by walkover after William Byaruhanga failed to appear.

In mixed plate, Sam Mwogeza won Vincent Kibira by 3:0 while in Juniors mixed, Nick Mukulu won Joel Kasibante by 2:0 in best of three.

“As i told you at the beginning of this tournament that if it needs to break my leg to win this 0.8m, i will do it”, Kadoma states.

While Jonathan said that, have tried very hard because it’s not easy to play such an experienced player but with time, i will become number one.
