Defending Champions St Francis SSS into quarter finals with game to spare

Busunju based Secondary School St Francis on the point to defend Netball trophy at Buganda Schools games. St Francis SSS who beat CANAAN High School 27-22 in last years final started this year’s competition on Saturday 9th March by losing 21-12 to host Kawanda SS but got their title defence back from on track by win 3 games in row, starting with that against St Matia Mulumba which they won 13-6.

St. Francis SSS continued by defeating Mackay Memorial 12-2 before round up the day with a 18-2 win against Mengo SS. The performance let the defending champions sleeping in second place with 6 points behind hosts Kawanda SSS with a game against Ahmadiyya SS coming up tomorrow Sunday 10th March 2024 morning at the same venue.

Coach Noah Ssemuddu praised his team character and promised to put in much effort against Ahmadiyya. “We Started by losing but the girls came back and put in the much needed effort to win 3 games convincingly. We are in second place with one game to play.

“We have a two points advantage over Ahmadiyya which is our opponent tomorrow morning but we will only target defeating them despite already being in the quarter finals”

Meanwhile St. Francis Football team is also a step away from reaching the Knockout stage having started on losing note. The James Kaweesi coached team lost 2-0 in their group E opener against Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga but the team bounced back with a 1-0 win over St. Raphael and the ball is now in their hands as they will only have to defeat Cambridge College to reach knockout phase.

The group is led by Uganda Martyrs High School Lubaga with 6 points, St. Francis in second position tied with St. Raphael who already completed their games on 3 points each, while Cambridge College is pointless with two games to play against, Uganda Martyrs Lubaga and St. Francis SSS.
