Businesses owners and traders around the country have today, Tuesday May 7th, 2024 gathered at Kololo airstrip to meet the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on issues concerning the challenges that they face in their businesses including the unfair tax system which is greatly affecting traders in the country.
Traders have come from different parts of the country such as Mbale, Wakiso, Kampala among others and currently, shops in Kampala are closed as many of them have gone to meet the President.
Among the key issues pushing the traders in the country to meet the President is the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution – EFRIS which was introduced by Uganda Revenue Authority which traders say is greatly affecting their businesses.
It should be noted that traders in Kampala last month held a week long peaceful demonstration over the same issues and talks between traders leaderships, government and URA officials were held and didn’t reach agreement until President Museveni intervened and promised to meet them to today tat Kololo have a permanent solution.
The Chairman for Kampala City Traders Association (KACITA) Dr. Thaddeus Musoke is hopeful that this meeting will be fruitful.
