Forum for Democratic Change expresses concern over the too many questions that are set to be asked to Ugandans during the population census process.
This comes at a time when government has set over 180 questions to ask during the process which according to FDC will not be effective.
During its weekly briefing at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi, the party spokesperson John Kikonyogo stressed that the information which was provided on the National ID can answer most of the questions that are to be asked, therefore it would be better if NIRA and UBOS worked together to use that information other than asking too many questions.
He noted that asking many questions may easily affect the process through time wastage as people may not be ready to respond to all the questions and people may not give their rightful details.
The party further expressed concern over the government’s not responding to the weather warnings from the experts which has led to loss of lives through the floods that have washed away people’s homes in Kasese, Mpigi, Dokolo among other areas in the country. He said government had to warn people about the floods and relocate them before they lost their lives and properties.
He added that government, through the office of the prime minister has not given a quick response to people in the affected areas and even the relief support is not adequate. He urged government to prevent such threats to people’s lives through managing the environment, road maintenance, listen to experts and warn people, apply favourable farming methods, among others.
However, he warned the parliament of Uganda not to take the speakers UK sanction lightly as it may not end at the speaker but the whole country may be affected in different sectors such as withdrawing the health support, that can greatly affect the life of Ugandans.
