Buganda Kingdom asks people to participate in Population Census

Buganda Kingdom has called upon people around the Kingdom to actively participate in the Population Census Process so that they can give the government room to plan for the country.

Population census process which is starting this Friday on 10/05/2024 is to be conducted by the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics for 10 days involves counting people, houses and properties.

The Buganda Premier Owek Charles Peter Mayiga noted that the Census is to help government to know the number of people in the country to plan accordingly and urged men to actively participate in the process.

During the Buganda Lukiiko that took place on the 06/05/2024, at Bulange Mengo, Owek Mayiga urged government to be fair and provide services to the people of Masaka, Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono such as roads repair, hospitals, schools and electricity.

The Katikkiro expressed concern over the good roads in other parts of the country yet the ones in Buganda region are damaged without being repaired yet a lot of taxes come from Buganda region which according to him, are not used appropriately. He sited the road from Nateete to Nakawuka which has taken years without being worked on, and however much people call for help, the government has kept a deaf ear.

However, he expressed concern over the political prisoners who have spent over 3 years in prison being charged of different offences saying that they deserve to be set free.

During the Lukiiko, Buganda chiefs commended the Kingdom for the efforts towards giving positive advice to the government and the people in the country especially in the agriculture and education sector.
