In abid to train people to fight against poverty among themselves, Mukono Diocese through the Micro finance support centre Ltd has launched the campaign to give out pigs to farmers in the districts that make up Greater Mukono.
During the function that took place in Nakanyonyi at the Mission land in Bukoba Archdeaconry, Mukono Diocese, the Bishop of Mukono Diocese The Rt Rev Enos Kitto Kagodo, expressed the Diocese’s commitment to work with the government for the development among the people since people who are financially stable can help to develop the church.
He appealed to the State Minister for cooperatives Frederick Ngobi Gume, to monitor the money being allocated to the people from the government so that it is given to the right people for the right use, for the people to change their lives. He added that the money sent from government is sometimes being misused and it doesn’t fulfill what it is meant for. Bishop Kagodo as well reported to Hon Gume the land grabbers occupying the church land that needs to be stopped.
However, the Bishop expressed concern over Minister Sam Mayanja’s conduct of disrespecting the Archbishop of the church of Uganda His Grace Dr Samuel Steven Kazimba Mugalu and noted that the Minister did this on his own but not on behalf of the government.
The state Minister for cooperatives Hon Frederick Gume cautioned people who received the pigs to be exemporary to others and avoid misusing or even eat them but to make sure that they multiply for their economic development.
The Director for Microfinance Support Centre in the country Dr Emmanuel Kizza, asked the Bishop to only give the pigs to those people who are well prepared and ready to fight poverty from their lives.
The Commercial Officer in Mukono District Ntege Kenneth appealed to the people who have received the pigs to take good care of them and avoid eating or selling them when they are still young.
He noted that they are to continue training people who have received the pigs on the modern farming methods so that people can be able to benefit from them and overcome poverty.
