“We need to sustain peace that the Veterans fought for” -Minister Kaboyo

The state Minister in the office of the Prime minister for Luwero triangle and Rwenzori region Hon Alice Kaboyo urged people to try as much as they can to sustain the peace the veterans fought for, through sustaining Socio economic transformation.

She mentioned this during the inter Denominational memorial service in honour of the fallen veterans which took place at Kiriri play ground in Mpenja Subcounty Gomba district.

Hon Kaboyo noted that veterans fought for the country to have peace therefore we should respect and value their efforts and maintain peace.

She updated about the construction of low cost houses as away of improving the lives of veterans such as the houses that have been handed over to the veterans in Budaka, Nakaseke, Mbarara, Wakiso and Mukono districts and the two more houses that are being constructed in Nakaseke district.

In her message that was delivered by Hon Rukia Nakadaama, the Prime Minister of Uganda The Rt. Hon Robinah Nabbanja called upon the people of Gomba to embrace government programs so that they can be able to fight poverty among themselves.

The Prime Minister cautioned landlords who forcefully share the land of the Bibanja owners saying that the President issued a directive for that to stop. She called upon local leaders and communities to work together in identifying and addressing land disputes.

During the memorial service, the 3rd Bishop of Central Buganda Diocese The Rt. Rev Michael Lubowa appealed to people to act voluntarily for the service of individuals, groups or communities who are in need.

Bishop Lubowa called for patriotism and peace by treating all people with kindness regardless of their race, gender, orientation, and to take a good example from the veterans who fought for their country.

Minister of energy and Mineral development Ruth Nankabirwa commended the government for supporting the activities of religions in the country siting the beauty of both the Catholic and Anglican spaces in Namugongo and revealed that the cabinet discussed plans to support the Muslims open celebrations of their martyrs. She called upon people to join in the celebrations of the martyr’s day in Namugongo on 3rd/06/2024.

The Special Presidential Assistant on Veterans Affairs, Brig. Gen. Jacob Asiimwe commended religious leaders for leading the memorial service and as well extended gratitude to Hon Kaboyo for the medical services offered to the people of Gomba during the health camp, as most of them received treatment.

The third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Nakadaama expressed gratitude towards the President for extending developmental projects to the people to improve their livelihood such as PDM, Emyooga among others and cautioned people to use the projects for their own good.

Among the activities that have been carried out ahead of the Hero’s day celebrations, Hon Kaboyo’s office engaged in pre activities such as medical camp, tree planting, a soccer gala for the youth and a memorial service.

During the health camp, 195 units of blood were collected, 157 TB patients were screened and 6 cases tested positive, 81 screens for cervical cancer where one tested positive, 81 screened for breast cancer, and 50 screened for prostate cancer, 220 patients got dental services, 275 eyes screening, 26 eye surgeries conducted with 275 general screens conducted, while 265 received reading glasses with the general out patient treatment being 1,329 clients.
