Minister Kaboyo meets youth leaders in Luwero

The youth leaders in Luwero district appealed to the State Minister in the office of the Prime Minister for Luwero Triangle Hon Alice Kaboyo to support them better their lives financially.

They made this appeal during their meeting with Minister at the Regional offices.

Kamya Fred, Chairperson NRM Bamunanika Sub County commended the Minister for considering to meet the youth and asked her to continue working with the youth to support them through Micro projects to support the youth so that they can continue with their business to improve their lives financially since poverty has misled many people into acts that go against the government objectives.

Babirye Teddy, female youth councillor, Butuntumula Sub county expressed concern over the chairpersons who are not facilitated everytime they hold council meetings yet the councilors are facilitated, calling upon the Minister to respond on this issue.

Babirye also expressed dissatisfaction about the way the President consider holding talks with people at different leadership levels in Kyankwanzi but doesn’t consider taking the youth for him to give them chance to share their views with him.

Councillor Isma Nasoor noted that the youth leaders have to solve their challenges before looking at solving the challenges of the youth they lead. He urged the Minister to look at the differences and divisions among people in the party which has in most cases led to the party decline in the district.

Matthew Bakkabulindi, youth Representative and Speaker Luwero Sub county stressed that all the youth want is money but the money allocated to them is little compared to what they need, for example the PDM and Emyooga money. He asked the Minister to allocate money through sub county youth SACCOs so that the youth can use it for their financial development.

Brenda Nekesa, councillor Zirobwe Sub county and speaker in Zirobwe council noted that, they don’t have big offices to work in but and have challenges with limited land to grow crops. She asked the Minister to support them with at least 40 Cows and 20,000 Hens to support the little salaries they get.

Youth Chairman in Bombo town council Habib Mustafa, asked the Minister to support the youth representatives in the 18 sub counties with motorcycles to help them in mobilisation during campaigns.

Sarah Zinab Musiime, female youth councillor Bombo Town council and Chairperson social service committee expressed concern over the way the youth are so many but represented by the minority. She said many youth opportunities have been used by other people yet they are the people to be used during the election period. She said they are living difficult lives in poverty yet the opportunities that they would use to better their lives are not clearly availed to them.

Chairman for Nrm in Luwero district Ronald Ndawula commended Minister Kaboyo for honouring their invitation to come and meet the youth and always turning up when she is called upon.

In response, Minister Kaboyo noted that the youth need to be taught about leadership so that they can get a wider picture of how to lead the people, for them to train their people not to look at the gains from leaders but the issues concerning their well being. ‘We will not use skilling, partialism or anything else but leadership skills.’ She stressed

She discouraged them from using discouraging words like TULI BUBI’ meaning we are badly off, because such words are demotivating.

Transport, cows, Hens, and lack of capital issues that the youth presented, Minister Kaboyo promised that, that is too little for the government to handle.
She discouraged the youth from using abusive languages towards their leaders and challenged them to stay away from misbehaving as it a bad example towards the young generation.

She noted that the cows they have donated to the people were not well utilised and Hens were stolen, therefore showing no interest in offering more support through Cows, hens.

This meeting was attended by youth leaders from different political parties and Minister promised to support their newly formed youth leaders SACCO with funding and 73 motorcycles to the youth representatives in the district.
