City lawyer Matovu remanded to Luzira prison over theft of over 4 billion shillings Cooperative Union money

State House Anti Corruption Unit together with CID and DPP have on Tuesday August 13 th 2024 arraigned city lawyer, Matovu John, an advocate with Ms Matovu & Matovu Advocates before the Anti-Corruption Court on Charges of theft by an agent and conspiracy to defraud government of over UGX 4 Billion.

The accused while entrusted as one of the advocates for Busoga Growers Cooperative Union to pursue war loss compensation claims from government conspired and stole the funds.

He dismissed the charges as “false” and “malicious,” and threatened to sue the state if acquitted. Matovu applied for temporary release on bail, citing his advanced age, financial stability, and health conditions. 

He joins Basoga Charles, the Chairperson Busoga Growers Cooperative and others who are on trial over the same. He has been remanded until 16th August 2024.
