Energy minister Ruth Nankabirwa has hosted EAPP Extraordinary COM meeting

On Thursday August 15, Energy minister, Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, as the Chairman of the Ministers of Energy Eastern Africa Power Pool (EAPP), hosted an Extraordinary COM meeting.

The EAPP was formed with a long-term objective of developing electricity markets in the region for equitable sharing of the energy resources. The region have moved a journey of over 18 years that has seen membership of EAPP grow to 13 countries each endowed differently with renewable energy resources that include, hydro, wind, geothermal and solar among others.

Some of the members have gas that can support power generation and various sectors of economy. Most of the EAPP Member States have their power systems interconnected and continue to prioritize developing interconnection lines.

Therefore, there is need to work together and make deliberate steps forward with coordination of EAPP to achieve the long-term objective of power trade to make good use of renewable energy resources and various investments made.

Nankabirwa said, “I urge Member states to continue supporting efforts of EAPP organs to implement agreed plans of EAPP.”

“I also implore members to continue honouring their obligations especially when it comes to fast tracking development of EAPP cross-border projects and remittance of subscription fees to facilitate smooth operations of EAPP.” She added.
