President Museveni has on Wednesday August 21 hosted H.E. Ambassador Josefa Sacko from the African Union and discussed the issue of Uganda to host the 2025 Extraordinary Agricultural Summit in Kampala.

Mr. Museveni said in a statement posted on his X handle bellow,

“This afternoon, I welcomed H.E. Ambassador Josefa Sacko from the African Union, who briefed me on the desire for Uganda to host the 2025 Extraordinary Agricultural Summit in Kampala.

We’re ready to showcase Africa’s agricultural potential! Uganda’s rich indigenous heritage in farming forms a strong foundation for modernization and commercialization.”

I, therefore, welcome this summit, which allows Africans to reconnect with our roots and nurture our agriculture for food security and prosperity.” President Museveni stated.

The AU Assembly had already decided to hold an Extraordinary Summit in 2025 in Kampala, Uganda to consider the post-Malabo CAADP agenda and requested AUC and AUDA-NEPAD, regional economic communities (RECs) with the support of development partners to develop the 10-year post-Malabo CAADP implementation plan and organize the Extraordinary Summit.

The previous AU agricultural summit was held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, in 2014. The summit shaped the action plan around the Malabo Declaration, which emphasized the prioritisation of accelerated agricultural growth and transformation for shared prosperity and improved livelihoods.

The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries, Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, Permanent Secretary, Maj. Gen. David Kasura Kyomukama, among others.
