The Parliamentary Buganda Caucus has announced its opposition to the proposed rationalization of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) and vowed to reject the bill until the government withdraws it.

This stance comes after a meeting between parliamentary committees on Agriculture, Finance, National Economy this week with President Museveni at State House Entebbe, where it was agreed to merge UCDA with the Ministry of Agriculture within three years.

Addressing journalists at Parliament, Butambala County MP and Caucus Chairperson Muwanga Kivumbi expressed the caucus’s strong rejection to the bill, stating that they will not support it.

He also emphasized that the Uganda Daily Cooperation should not be merged with the same ministry.

The Caucus has also resolved to hold consultative meetings with coffee-growing communities, starting with Greater Mpigi, Mityana, Luwero, and other areas, beginning next Tuesday.

Additional resolutions include forming a parliamentary coffee platform to advocate for coffee, hosting breakfast meetings with stakeholders, and launching social media campaigns.
