KCCA secured their second win of the Uganda Premier League season, with a victory against Kitara FC 2-0 at the Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Friday September 27.

First-half goals from Saidi Mayanja and Derrick Nsibambi ensured three points for the hosts.

The win was particularly sweet for KCCA FC manager Abdallah Mubiru, who had sparked controversy before the match by dismissing Kitara as a “small team on form” that was merely receiving media hype.

Tensions were high ahead of kickoff, with Kitara having defeated KCCA twice last season and again in the FUFA Super Eight tournament last month. Many Kitara fans were angered by Mubiru’s comments, adding extra intensity to the game.

When asked if he felt pressured by his pre-match remarks, Mubiru stood by his words. “Nothing would have really changed my statement. I didn’t think of any repercussions in case we didn’t win the game,” Mubiru said after the game

KCCA took an early lead in the 11th minute when Mayanja coolly finished after a solo run by Shafik Nana Kwikiriza sliced through Kitara’s defense.

Nsibambi doubled the lead in the 43rd minute, capitalizing on a poor clearance by Kitara goalkeeper Crispus Kusiima and slotting the ball into the far corner from inside the box.

Kitara endured a difficult first half, losing two key players, Eric Muber and new signing Rogers Mugisha, to injury. The team struggled to find their rhythm and failed to create meaningful chances.

Star player Denis Omedi, who had been linked with a move to KCCA FC, also struggled to make an impact.

Despite a few late efforts from Umar Lutalo, Jude Ssekiganda and Moses Sseruyidde, Kitara was unable to breach KCCA’s defense.

“We’ve seen the results of the hard work we put in during the week. We created chances and converted two. We’re not yet at our best, but we are improving,” Mubiru said after the match.

KCCA now sits on seven points, having won their season opener against URA and drawn with BUL.

Kitara, on the other hand, suffered their second loss of the season, with their only win coming against Lugazi, while they previously lost to NEC on Matchday Two
