Several countries will be seeking to secure their places at the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations as Matchday 4 of the qualifiers continue from Monday.
Uganda, South Africa, Algeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, DR Congo and Angola are among the countries with perfect records in the qualifiers and victories could all but confirm their places at the competition to be held in Morocco.
Some countries will be seeking to revive their hopes of qualifying particularly Ghana who have stuttered since the start of the qualifiers.
Here is a group-by-group preview of Matchday 4 of the AFCON 2025 qualifiers:
Group A
Tunisia will look to bounce back from their shock defeat to Comoros as they face them again. Despite leading the group with six points, the Carthage Eagles are under pressure to secure a result to maintain their advantage. Gambia and Madagascar both sit with two points each after their 1-1 draw and will clash again, looking to climb up the table. A win for Comoros could push them to the top of the group.
Group B
Morocco has been dominant so far, with a perfect record of nine points, and will face Central African Republic again after thrashing them 5-0. With qualification guaranteed as hosts, the Atlas Lions will cement their place at the top of the group with a perfect record after winning all their matches in the group. Gabon faces Lesotho in Durban and will need a win to strengthen their hold on second place.
Group C
Egypt remains undefeated with nine points and a flawless defensive record, putting them in a strong position to qualify as they take on Mauritania again. The fight for second place continues between Cape Verde and Botswana, who both sit with three points each. This group remains open behind the dominant Egyptians.
Group D
Nigeria sits at the top of Group D with seven points and faces bottom-placed Libya, who have only one point. A win for the Super Eagles would see them strengthen their lead and edge closer to qualification. Benin meets Rwanda, hoping to build on their 3-0 victory and solidify their second-place standing.
Group E
Algeria, with nine points and a 100% record, will look to secure their fourth consecutive win when they travel to Togo. Togo has struggled, with just one point, and needs a result to keep their qualifying hopes alive. Equatorial Guinea, currently second with 4 points, faces Liberia and will aim to extend their lead over Togo.
Group F
Angola leads Group F with nine points and will take on Niger, who sit at the bottom with one point. Ghana, currently third with two points, faces a must-win game against Sudan. A win for Angola would likely secure their qualification, while Ghana risks falling further behind if they don’t pick up a victory.
Group G
Côte d’Ivoire will seek to maintain their perfect record when they face Sierra Leone. With nine points from three games, the Elephants are on course to qualify early. Zambia takes on Chad, who are still searching for their first win. Zambia, sitting second with 4 points, need a win to stay in contention.
Group H
DR Congo, another team with nine points, travels to face second-placed Tanzania. A win for Congo would secure their qualification, while Tanzania will be hoping to close the gap. Guinea faces Ethiopia in a bottom-of-the-table clash, with both teams desperate for a win to revive their chances.
Group I
Mali leads the group with seven points and will face Guinea-Bissau in Bissau. Mozambique, sitting second with 5 points, takes on Eswatini and will be looking to extend their unbeaten run and move closer to qualification. Eswatini, with just one point, needs a win to stay in contention.
Group J
Cameroon leads Group J with seven points and faces Kenya again after their dominant 4-1 victory. A win for Cameroon would almost guarantee their spot at TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2025. Zimbabwe, sitting in second place, takes on bottom-placed Namibia, who are yet to earn a point in the group.
Group K
South Africa faces Congo after their emphatic 5-0 win, and both teams will be eager for a result. Uganda, also with seven points, faces South Sudan in Juba. South Africa and Uganda are neck-to-neck in the group and victories could seem them in the finals, with Congo needing a result to stay in the race.
Group L
Burkina Faso is undefeated and leads the group with 10 points after beating Burundi again with a 2-0 win on Sunday. Senegal, with seven points, takes on Malawi, who are yet to pick up any points. Senegal could all but secure their qualification with a win, leaving Malawi with a mountain to climb.
