The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa has commended President Museveni and his Government for liberalizing the education sector to allow private individuals to run schools.
Deputy Speaker Tayebwa said the policy has helped to relieve government schools of the huge numbers of students and pupils hence improving the education standards.
Tayebwa said today in his speech that was delivered by the NRM Deputy Secretary General, Namayanja Rose Nsereko in Maddu Town Council, Gomba district that Maddu Light SDA Primary School marked 30 years of service since inception.
The private individuals and cultural and religious institutions have greatly contributed to the development of the country through projects like schools, hospitals, recreation and hospitality facilities among others. These projects also provide jobs and wealth to Ugandans and we are so grateful,” Tayebwa said.
He donated 10 Million as a contribution to the construction of the school’s three-stored building to house classrooms and library.
On her behalf, the Rt. Hon. Namayanja praised the NRM government for creating a favourable environment for private schools to thrive.
“We are thankful to the NRM government for giving room for private schools to be established and for playing a pivotal role in nurturing and educating our children, who go on to become doctors, lawyers, and teachers, all contributing to the national development of our country,” she remarked.
She also commended the collaboration between the community and the SDA church, which has ensured the school’s sustained success. “I thank the community leaders for working hand in hand with the SDA Church to ensure that this school remains operational and continues to be one of the good schools in Gomba District. We must keep supporting it,” she added.
Namayanja further praised the dedication of the school administrators and teachers for their role in shaping the children into responsible citizens. “The teachers here have done an exceptional job of nurturing and educating these children, ensuring they grow to be purposeful community members.”
In her message to the parents, Namayanja emphasized the importance of education, urging them to prioritize keeping their children in school. “There is nothing more valuable a parent can give to their children than education. The main contribution is not what you leave behind for them, but the knowledge and exposure you provide. When you educate your children, you are building your household, the community, and the entire country. Education is vital, and parents must not neglect this responsibility.” She also pledged 100 bags of cement towards the school’s construction project.
Hon. Sylvia Nayebare, Woman MP for Gomba District, thanked the NRM government for supporting parents through initiatives like the Parish Development Model and other wealth creation programs that help sustain children’s education.
Hon. Robinah Rwakojo, Member of Parliament for Gomba West, expressed her gratitude to the alumni and the community for their ongoing support of the school.
Mr Kiyengo Timothy, the head teacher of Maddu Light SDA Primary School, thanked the church, parents, the Old Students’ Association, and well-wishers for their generous contributions. He assured them of the school’s continued commitment to providing quality education.
