Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has revealed plans for acquiring two different plots of land to enhance waste management following the devastating Kiteezi tragedy that claimed 35 lives.

The Acting Executive Director Frank Rusa revealed to the parliamentary committee on presidential affairs that KCCA is procuring two 200-acre properties to address the insufficient alternative dumpsites in Entebbe, Wakiso, and Mukono.

These sites struggle to handle the 2,500 tons of garbage generated daily in Kampala.

However, some MPs, including Kitgum District MP Denis Onekalit Amere and committee chairperson Alex Byarugaba, expressed concerns that acquiring more land isn’t a sustainable solution besides focusing on waste management.

In response, Rusa announced that KCCA will soon invite proposals from companies offering comprehensive solid waste solutions.
