After the country experienced an increase in Mpox cases in different districts, Nebbi District has also
reported a case of Mpox following someone from Pakwach District testing positive at Nebbi General
Hospital.

The RDC for Nebbi District, Robert Abakutte, confirmed the registered case of Mpox in the district and
expressed concern that this case poses a significant threat and risk to the health system.

The district surveillance team expressed concern that, since the victim traveled from Pakwach to Nebbi
General Hospital on a boda boda, the victim could have transmitted the virus to the boda boda rider,
who may have then spread it to other passengers, putting the entire district at a very high risk.

It should be noted that Uganda is experiencing an increase in new cases of Mpox, which calls for
everyone to pay attention and take care of their health.

The Ministry of Health continues to warn the public to be aware of the early signs of Mpox so they can
watch out for one another and prevent rapid transmission of the virus. These signs and symptoms
include weakness, headache, sweating, fever, sore throat, chills, among others. In the second phase,
symptoms may manifest within a few days. A rash then appears, starting at the point of contact with the
virus and subsequently spreading to the entire body within 5 to 21 days.

However, the ministry reveals that it is expecting 2,000 doses to help prevent and combat Mpox in the
country. These doses will be distributed to the most vulnerable groups identified by the technical team.
