Amidist heavy rains, thousands of people from different parts of the country turned up for the 12th Kabaka Birthday Run, one of the events held prior to the Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II’s, birthday celebrations.

Every year, the Kingdom organizes this run with a specific theme aimed at fundraising for a common cause, contributing to the well-being of the people in the country. Similar to last year, this year’s theme focuses on saving girls from the spread of HIV, calling on men to take the lead.

His Majesty arrived at Lubiri Palace around 7 a.m., and the participants were filled with joy when he arrived. He flagged them off amidist the rain, with distances of 21, 10, and 5 kilometers respectively.

The Katikkiro of Buganda, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, commended participants for turning out in large numbers despite the heavy rain. He also appreciated people from other countries who have been part of the run, no matter where they are, and called upon the public to continue the fight against HIV/AIDS.

However, those who were unable to make it to Lubiri also participated in the birthday run from various parts of the country, including Liberation Square in Masaka, Senge in Wakiso, St. James SS in Busoga, Ssekanyonyi Ssabagabo, Nsazi Islands, Arua, and other locations.

Similarly, people who love Buganda in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle County, USA, also took part in the Kabaka Birthday Run. They were flagged off by the Kabaka’s Chief in Seattle, Owek Eng. Moses Mayanja Ggayi, at Wapato Park in Tacoma City.

His Majesty the King was accompanied by the Nnaalinnya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, and the Royal family.

The theme of the Kabaka birthday run this year is: “Men Against HIV/AIDS to Save the Girl Child .”
